Rock Creek High School, St. George, Kansas – November 20, 2024

Rock Creek High School proudly inducted five talented student journalists into the prestigious Quill and Scroll Honor Society during a special ceremony held on Wednesday, November 20, 2024. The ceremony, hosted in the high school commons area, recognized the outstanding achievements of students in the field of journalism. 

The event was led by Mrs. Schmidt, the school's journalism teacher and adviser, alongside Ashanti Gibbs, the Editor-in-Chief of The Mustang Yearbook. The ceremony honored these students for their dedication to excellence in media and their contributions to the school's publications.

The following candidates were inducted into Quill and Scroll:

  • Olivia Bowman – junior, Mustang Yearbook Copy Editor, The Hoof Print Online Newspaper, The Mustang Rewind podcast

  • Brooklyn Gibbs – junior, Mustang Yearbook Student Life Manager

  • Koda Moeller – junior, Mustang Yearbook Photo Editor and The Hoof Print Online Newspaper Photo Editor, and RCTV Broadcast Student 

  • Elizabeth Martinez Bojorques – senior, Mustang Yearbook Business Manager

  • Segen Sutton – senior, Mustang Yearbook Graphic Design Editor, The Hoof Print Online Newspaper, The Mustang Rewind podcast, and RCTV Broadcast Student

Mrs. Schmidt welcomed everyone and spoke passionately about the importance of student journalism in shaping the voice of a community and the impact these young leaders will have on the future of media.

Ashanti Gibbs, the Editor-in-Chief, shared the history of Quill and Scroll International Honorary Society for High School Journalism and led the candidates in the candle-lighting ceremony.

The Quill and Scroll Honor Society is an international organization recognizing high school students for excellence in journalism. The inductees join an esteemed group of young journalists committed to the ideals of truth, integrity, and professionalism in media.

Rock Creek High School congratulates all five inductees and looks forward to their continued success in their journalism endeavors.
